Lacombe’s Main Street Project moving along

Jun 26, 2017 | 6:29 AM

LACOMBE- The Main Street project has advanced into Stage 2, with workers expanding the construction zone west to 51 Street and south on 49C Avenue.

Crews will replace the Stage 2 sanitary main in 50 Avenue and the water and sanitary main in 49C Avenue over the next two weeks.

The watermain down 49C Avenue will also be replaced to improve water flow in the area.

Concrete crews are currently onsite in the Stage 1 area, extruding new curb and gutter on both sides of 50 Avenue.

Workers will continue preparing the sidewalk base and pouring new sidewalk in sections over the next couple of weeks.

Light compaction equipment will be used to pack the sidewalk base, which significantly reduces the likelihood of cracks forming in the new sidewalk.

Gravel ramps and temporary wood bridges have been constructed to maintain business access until the sidewalk is ready for pedestrians.

City officials estimate that Stage 1 will be re-opened to vehicle traffic around the second week of July.

Stage 2 is scheduled to be open to vehicle traffic toward the end of July.

Overall, the project is still scheduled for completion by the end of October.
