RED DEER – A preliminary hearing has been ordered for a former Red Deer high school teacher facing sex-related charges.

A lawyer appeared in Red Deer court Tuesday on behalf of Rhett Lundgren, who is charged with sexual exploitation and luring.

Lundgren was a teacher at Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer in 2008.

Red Deer RCMP charged him in January of this year after a female victim, who was 17 at the time of the alleged offences, stepped forward.

Lundgren has pleaded not guilty and has elected to be tried by judge alone. A preliminary hearing will take place in Red Deer on January 17, 2018 to determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.

The 40-year-old also faces charges out of Saskatoon for arranging to commit a sexual offence against a child and attempting to access child pornography. Lundgren was teaching at Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon when he was arrested in December.
