RED DEER – An Alberta RCMP constable charged with sexual assault made an appearance in Red Deer court Monday morning.

Jason Tress, 30 was charged on March 29, 2017 following an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ALERT) launched on July 15, 2016.

ALERT was directed by the Director of Law Enforcement to investigate a “serious and sensitive allegation of sexual assault on a woman involving an RCMP officer.” Susan Hughson with ALERT reviewed the investigations and found there was enough evidence present to proceed with charges against Tress.

Tress, an eight-year RCMP officer, is accused in three separate incidents:

– One count of sexual assault and one count of criminal breach of trust arising out of the initial investigation involving one woman, relating to an incident that took place in 2016;

– One count of criminal breach of trust in relation to a separate 2016 incident and woman unrelated to the previous two counts;

– One count of sexual assault in relation to a third woman, stemming from an unrelated incident in 2012.

Two of the incidents are said to have occurred while Tress was on duty, including one at the Red Deer RCMP Detachment in 2016.

Tress was suspended last August and will remain off-duty until his charges are resolved.

He has been released on conditions and is due back in Red Deer court on July 19 to enter pleas.
