TV’s Mantracker brings teachings to Kerry Wood Nature Centre

Jun 16, 2017 | 2:33 PM

The man famous for being TV’s “Mantracker” is coming to in Red Deer this weekend.

Terry Grant of High River is bringing his teachings to the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for a sold-out class.

Grant will be sharing his expertise that he put to use on the popular show, which he appeared on for six seasons from 2006 to 2011.

“There’s so much more to tracking than just looking at a footprint on the ground,” Grant says. “You get to know the speed they’re traveling, whether they have a limp or not, how long their stride is — you learn so much about a person just by tracking them. It’s pretty cool.”

Grant teaches across the country and also does keynote speaking and makes other public appearances.

He says while it isn’t necessarily a component of his tracking courses, respect for the environment is something he holds near and dear.

“Traveling all over Canada and a bunch of the States doing shows, I realized how much garbage there was in what we call wilderness. I was totally amazed at to what length people will go to go dump their garbage somewhere instead of paying the $5 to dump it in a landfill or get it disposed of properly,” he says. “You pack your stuff in, you pack it all out — don’t leave your garbage in the bush.”
