Safe Harbour hosting 10th annual Community Feast
The 10th annual Community Spring Feast is this Saturday at Fort Normandeau.
The feast is hosted by Safe Harbour Society alongside a number of community partners.
Safe Harbour Executive Director Kath Hoffman says the event is based off an Aboriginal tradition of coming together to welcome the spring.
“It’s to give thanks for getting through the winter, which we can all appreciate, and to come and share, share in a feast, share in the celebration of spring,”she explains. “What it does for Red Deer is it gives the community a chance to come together and share those gifts of ceremony.”
The event runs 12 to 5 p.m. at Fort Normandeau. There will be dancing and other entertainment. As well, sweats will be held in the sweat lodge on site.
The public is welcome to attend and you are encouraged to bring containers to take away food as organizers would like to avoid disposables or styrofoam.
