Red Deer Experience Awards showcases exceptional customer service

Jun 8, 2017 | 2:26 PM

The 2017 Red Deer Experience Awards were handed out today in a ceremony acknowledging exceptional customer service by both businesses and employees.

The awards recognized outstanding individuals in the fields of accommodations, activities and dining and food. Businesses were also recognized in these same categories, as well as in a social media category.

The list of nominees this year was extensive including over 140 individuals and businesses. The awards are designed to recognize how important the recipients’ roles are in contributing to the overall hospitality and tourism experience that Red Deer provides as both a City and County.

Winners for outstanding individual in accommodations, activities and dining and food included Karen Martin – Black Knight Inn, Danielle Fortin – Pursuit Adventures, and Breanna LaJeunesse – Holiday Inn & Suites Red Deer South.

Fortin said they found out about the nominations about a month ago. Pursuit Adventures was also nominated in the outstanding business for activity category.

“It’s kind of fun to be recognized for the stuff we do,” said Fortin.

Pursuit Adventures does small group tours in Central Alberta and owner and CEO J.P. Fortin said customer service is key.

“We just try to have the best guest experience right from guests trying to find information to the small details on tours like having our own hot chocolate marshmallows. We just try to keep it a bit more personalized that way,” said JP.

Winners for outstanding businesses in the accommodation, activity, dining and food, and social media categories included Best Western PLUS Red Deer Inn & Suites, Discovery Wildlife Park, Mohave Smokehouse & Bar, and Red Deer Airport respectively.

Kayla Smith, director of airport development, communications and marketing with the Red Deer Airport, said a win in the social media category is a step in the right direction for the team.

The social media engagement project started as a way to keep the community informed of projects at the airport including the runway extension.

“For us I think the biggest driver was more of a community outreach and engagement piece as well as keeping local residents informed of some of the initiatives and things that were going on,” said Smith.

Nominations for the Red Deer Experience Awards continue through December 31 of 2017. To nominate an individual or business you feel provided exceptional customer service visit www.visitreddeer.com
