Red Deer photographer creates unique tribute for Canada’s 150th birthday

May 17, 2017 | 11:02 AM

A Red Deer photographer has put his lens to work to create a unique tribute honouring Canadians from coast-to-coast.

Tim Van Horn has crossed the country five times over the past eight years in his bid to capture 54,000 ‘day in the life’ photos, representing .150 per cent of Canada’s population.

The end result is a mosaic representing iconic symbols and all walks of life in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

The “To Canada With Love” exhibit at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery is offering residents a chance for a close looks at some of Tim’s work.

“The MAG is very proud to exhibit some of Tim’s mosaic work, along with some inspiring quotations about Canada,” says Lorna Johnson, Executive Director of the MAG.

“Tim is a gifted portrait photographer, and his to Canada with Love project is inspiring in its scale and its commitment to celebrating the diversity of our vast country. We are happy to show the work here in Tim’s home town, and to launch him on his Canada 150 cross-Canada tour.”

Van Horn will be at the MAG on May 26 for the official launch event for the exhibit (4 – 8 p.m.). The event is open to the public and will feature food and live entertainment.
