Pair arrested after string of early morning thefts in Ponoka

May 12, 2017 | 4:15 PM

Ponoka RCMP have charged a pair arrested after being caught with stolen property.

Police responded in the early morning hours of May 11 after a rural resident reported that two suspects had broken into his house. The resident chased the suspects, but they fled on bicycles that were in his yard.

RCMP located both the suspects and made the arrests without incident.  The males were found to be in possession of several stolen items ranging from electronic equipment to Pizza Pops.

Later that morning, other residents began reporting thefts from their motor vehicles and homes. A total of 17 different complaints were lodged with the RCMP.

An active investigation is ongoing and early indications are that all incidents are related to the two subjects arrested.

One 20-year-old male and one youth, both from Maskwacis First Nation are facing counts related to break and enter and theft, mischief and possession of property obtained by crime. Neither accused can be named as charges have not yet been sworn against the adult, and because the other is a youth. Both suspects were released with a promise to appear in Court this June.
