City promoting National Emergency Preparedness Week

May 10, 2017 | 9:56 AM

Plan. Prepare. Be Aware.

The theme for this year’s National Emergency Preparedness Week promotes knowing the risks in your community, making an emergency plan for your family, and having a 72-hour emergency kit.

Karen Mann, Emergency Management Coordinator with the City of Red Deer, says emergencies can happen anywhere, and in any season.

“Small acts today can have a big impact if you are faced with a crisis,” she says. “The Ft. McMurray wildfires last year resulted in the evacuation of nearly 90,000 people under stressful and uncertain conditions.”
