Trial for Delburne man charged in crash that killed truck thief
RED DEER – Trial has been ordered for a Delburne man charged in a fatal collision that occurred after he gave chase to a man who stole a truck from his rural property.
Daniel Wayne Newsham, 46, is charged with manslaughter. He was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing in Red Deer court on Monday.
Three Hills RCMP were alerted at around 11:30 on the night of August 14, 2016 about a suspicious Dodge Dakota that drove onto a rural property near Delburne and got stuck. The driver then reportedly took a Ford F150 from the property before fleeing.
According to police, a man in a vehicle had been following the suspicious Dodge, and then continued following the stolen Ford before they eventually collided.
Stanley Dick, 32, was driving the stolen Ford. He died from the injuries he suffered after the truck rolled over following the collision.
