H.J. Cody administrators to share school redesign ideas with provincial colleagues

May 8, 2017 | 2:30 PM

Successful school redesign at H.J. Cody School in Sylvan Lake has earned administrators a special invite.

Chinook’s Edge School Division describes school redesign as ‘ensuring students take ownership of their own learning by creating a school culture and expectation that they master concepts along the way through a variety of methods.’

According to Myranda Shepherd, Coordinator with Central Alberta Regional Consortium, the school’s thoughts on assessment and learning need to be heard by as many educators as possible.

“Principal Mike Garrow, and vice principals Alexandra Lambert and Darcy Marshall, have been so intentional about creating sustainable growth in quality learning and setting a culture where these high expectations are modeled and lived,” she says. “There is nothing more important to students than the quality of learning in the classroom, and H.J. Cody has taken that priority to a powerful level.”

Lambert adds the entire school is proud of their accomplishment.

“Students are speaking differently about their learning, teachers are collaborating to improve their own teaching methods, the learning that is taking place in classrooms is guided by clearly defined outcomes, and everything that takes place in every classroom is designed to impact success for all students,” she says.

Organized by Shepherd, a series of four networking meetings across the province for H.J. Cody admin to share their redesign strategies and goals led to the special invite. The team will now present their ideas during a live webinar which will be shown across the province on Tuesday, May 9 from 3:30 to 4:30.
