Dick's Auto Braves win provincial gold

The Red Deer Dick's Auto Braves won the provincial Mosquito AA Tier 1 championship over the weekend.

The Braves won all five of their games at the tournament in Spruce Grove: 15-3 vs. Sherwood Park, 12-9 vs. South Jasper Place, 7-6 vs. Innisfail, 9-2 vs. St. Albert, and 10-8 vs. Parkland in the final.

In the championship game, Luke Schmitt struck out four batters over three innings while allowing three runs. Matthew Deaver came on in the third inning, pitching three strikeouts and no walks.

The Braves were down by one run (4-3) going into the fourth inning when they rallied for three runs for a 6-3 lead, Grady Rodzinyak sparked the rally with a two run double. 

Parkland responded with four runs in the fifth inning making it 8-6.

Spencer Claerhout and Brett Leslie then had RBI's for Red Deer. Schmitt drove a deep hit to left field for a three run inside the park homer.

 Deaver struck out two batters and induced a pop fly for the game’s final out, sealing the gold medal for Red Deer.
