Blackfalds Days are back this Father’s Day weekend with some new activities

The Town of Blackfalds has lots in store for residents at this year’s Blackfalds Days, running right through Father’s Day.

The community event from June 15-18 will include shows, games, food and other activities for the whole family.

Kicking off on Thursday will be a Global FMX! Moto X big air show with riders performing death-defying tricks at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagle Builders Centre parking lot (5302 Broadway Ave.).

On Friday, kids from Grades 4-12 can head for free to the “Youth Night Out” party at 6 p.m. at the Eagle Builders Centre with inflatables, food competitions and a DJ, among other activities.

On Saturday, the day will start with a Town Councillors’ Pancake Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Community Centre (4810 Womacks Rd.). Admissions will be simply cash or produce donations towards the Community Food Hub & Blackfalds Food Bank.

At 11 a.m., the Blackfalds Community Parade will begin at the lot beside the Garden Auto (4618 East Railway St.) with a hot dog barbeque to follow at the Servus Parking Lot (4906 Broadway Ave.) in support of the Food Bank.

Until 4 p.m. a free Kids Zone will be available with bouncy castles, virtual reality and free admission to the Ag Society petting zoo among other activities at the public library (5302 Broadway Ave.).

As well, the ‘Little of This Market’ group will be hosting a market at the Eagle Builders Centre along with a celebration of the Centre’s Functional Mobility & Health one-year anniversary with raffles, complimentary assessments, compressions and laser therapy.

For Father’s Day weekend, participants can register at Dad’s Day Off Games & Hobbies store (5002 Broadway Ave.) for the first ever D&D Battle Royal for just $2. By picking from a list of pre-made characters, the last one standing will move on each round until the end.

Throughout the day, the Central Alberta Arm Wrestling Championships will be taking place at the Ag Society Amphitheatre alongside a 50/50 draw with proceeds going to the Family and Community Support Services’ Back to School Program.

Finally, the Blackfalds Pyro Crew will be hosting their 19th fireworks show at 11 p.m. at the Bark Park (4505 South St.).

On Sunday, the Blackfalds Christian Ministerial will host a community church service with a free barbeque to follow. The Abbey Centre’s McKay Ranch Outdoor Aquatic Centre will also have $2 admissions for those above three years of age from noon – 4 p.m.

While the times are still undetermined, the Blackfalds Minor Baseball will have a kick-off weekend tournament from Friday-Sunday at the All-Star Park & Diamond (4800 Leung Rd.).
