Crews respond to vehicle/house fire in Glendale

Nov 5, 2022 | 10:21 AM

Red Deer Emergency Services responded to a house fire in the Glendale neighbourhood early Saturday morning.

It was 3:45 when crews arrived to the home on Glendale Boulevard, says Curtis Schaefer, assistant deputy chief.

Initial reports suggested a vehicle was on fire and that the flames had extended to the home.

Upon arrival, the fire had in fact reached the home, ripping through the garage and into the attic.

The family living there evacuated safely, though two cats of unknown description are still reportedly missing.

Red Cross is currently assisting the family.

The garage, Schaefer says, is a write-off, though the rest of the house still needs to be assessed.

Schaefer says the fire began in or on a pickup truck which was outdoors, though how it started is still under investigation.

The truck, plus another car that was in the garage, are both write-offs.

Four engines, one ladder, an ambulance and a command vehicle, for 23 total staff, plus RCMP, were on scene.
