Red Deer RCMP lay charges following dangerous driving incidents

Dec 29, 2021 | 10:33 AM

Charges have now been laid following several reports of dangerous driving in Red Deer last week.

Red Deer RCMP say a 28-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight from police, fail to comply with release conditions, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, refusal to comply with demand (impaired), dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to remain at scene of accident, and possession of a controlled substance.

Mounties say the suspect has been remanded in custody unit his next court appearance on Jan. 5, 2022.

On Dec. 22, at 9:53 p.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of an impaired driver. RCMP had received complaints about the vehicle being stolen and driving dangerously earlier in the day.

RCMP located the vehicle parked with the driver asleep. When police attempted to access the vehicle, the driver woke and attempted to flee the area, striking vehicles and a tree.

Later, police again observed the vehicle parked. When officers attempted to approach the vehicle, it rammed three police cars, several other vehicles and a fence. RCMP allege the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to enter another occupied vehicle. However, police were able to arrest the suspect without further incident.

Red Deer RCMP are thankful to report that no officers or members of the public were injured in the incidents. Mounties also remind the public to refrain from leaving vehicles running with the keys inside.
