Nov 2, 2021 | 1:56 PM

Football Alberta has released its Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of 12-man high school football in the province and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2021 season.

These rankings come out every Sunday until November 7. At that time, those will be the last rankings and teams will take that rank into Provincials.

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

Brian Fryer Qualifying

Last year the ASAA announced the creation of an upper level of Tier I playoffs they named the Brian Fryer Tier I Division after the long-time former Football Alberta Executive Director and Canadian Football Hall of Famer. This essentially pulls the top four Tier I teams out of the traditional regional representation Tier I Playoffs and has them playoff similar to the College Football Playoffs in the NCAA.

For the first time, qualifying for Provincials at any level will be based on rankings from a committee rather than regional representation (which is still in place for all four Tier’s of 12-Man football. Note: This is an ASAA committee that will decide this, NOT the Football Alberta rankings.

At the moment there are several teams vying for inclusion in the Brian Fryer playoffs and most of their fate will be decided this upcoming week. Standards like Harry Ainlay, L.C.I., and St. Francis probably need only to win to punch their ticket. But what of Salisbury, Raymond and Notre Dame who play those teams (or All Saints and Ernest Manning who play Calgary Div. I Semi-Finals vs. St. Francis and Notre Dame respectfully on Monday and are perfectly capable of pulling an upset). If the favorites win, it should be cut and dried to see who advances. But if the underdogs prevail…chaos! You gotta love sports!
