Active COVID cases reach 209 in Red Deer

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer rose by 10 on Tuesday for a total of 209.

That brings to 6,080 the number of cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic. Recoveries, meanwhile, number 5,828 – an increase of nine from Monday.

Total deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus remains at 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 794 active cases as of Tuesday, up 29 from Monday. There are 26 hospitalizations, up two, with five people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one from Monday.

The Central Zone has had 176 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today (A female in her 100s).

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 629 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 7,931 – up 154 from Monday.

With 6,010 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 10.5 per cent.

Of the active cases, 6,651 are variants of concern, or 83.8 per cent of all active cases.

There are 258 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 14 from Monday, with 57 of those patients in ICU, up three from Monday.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,355, up seven from Monday.

There are currently 2,468 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 2,422 in the Calgary zone, 1,241 in the North zone, 989 in the South zone, and 17 other cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,503,259 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Aug. 23.

As a result, 77.4 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (65.8% total population), while 68.9 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (58.6% total population).
