Two new COVID deaths in Central Zone, Red Deer down to 23 active cases

There are now just 23 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer, according to the latest numbers released by Alberta Health on Wednesday.

That’s a decrease of six from Tuesday and the city’s lowest total since 22 were reported on Oct. 13.

Recoveries are up seven to 5,697 as Red Deer added just one new COVID-19 case over the past 24 hours for a total of 5,762.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 42.

The entire Central Zone has 118 active cases as of Wednesday, down eight, with 19 hospitalizations, including four receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 169 deaths linked to the virus, including two reported in the last 24 hours:

· Date of death: June 26. A male in his 20s in Central Zone

· Date of death: June 28. A female in her 70s in Central Zone.

In both cases there are no known comorbidities at this time.

There are 1,055 active cases, down 132 from Tuesday and 228,631 recovered cases in the province, up 151.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 231,987.

There are 76 new cases in the province today, and 66 more variant of concern cases have been identified. That’s out of 6,335 test results for a positivity rate of about 1.2 per cent.

There are now 165 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 34 of which are in ICU, and 2,301 deaths.

4,332,883 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta through June 29. 72.8 percent of the 12+ population has received at least one dose (62% total population) and 42.4 percent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (36% total population). In Red Deer, 58,692 people have received at least one done while 37,700 are fully vaccinated.
