Red Deer with 161 active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday

Alberta confirmed 366 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

That’s out of 8,312 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 4.4 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 8,652, a decrease of 685 from Monday. Recoveries are up 1,040 to a total of 111,662.

There are 626 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down nine, including 108 in intensive care, down five.

Another 14 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours bringing Alberta’s total from COVID-19 to 1,587.

Alberta has administered 99,814 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. More than 10,000 Albertans have now received two doses and are fully inoculated.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Tuesday sits at 161, up two from Monday. There have been 1,610 recoveries, an increase of 14 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 16 to a total of 1,789.

Red Deer County has 31 active cases as of Tuesday, a decrease of one, while Sylvan Lake is down two to 24.

Lacombe County has 23 active cases, a decrease of two, and the city of Lacombe has 20, unchanged over the past 24 hours.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) has 68 active cases, a decrease of 11.

The active case count in Ponoka County sits at 196, down 32 over the past 24 hours.

Mountain View County is down one to 21 active cases, Olds held steady with 12 and Kneehill County remains with four. Stettler and County also remain with five active cases.

The Central Zone as a whole has 746 active cases as of Tuesday, a decrease of 63, with 49 hospitalizations, including eight receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 83 deaths as a result of COVID-19, none of which were reported in the past 24 hours.

Currently, 278 Alberta schools (about 11.5 per cent) are on alert or have outbreaks, with 526 cases in total.

266 schools are on alert, including Lacombe Composite High School, St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Blackfalds and John Wilson Elementary in Innisfail, with a total of 419 total cases.

Outbreaks (10 or more cases) are declared in 12 schools across the province, including St. Joseph High School in Red Deer, with a total of 107 cases.

The province says in-school transmission has likely occurred in 52 schools. Of these, 40 have had only one new case occur as a result.

There are currently 785 active and 7,879 recovered cases at long-term care facilities and supportive/home living sites. To date, 1,040 of the 1,587 reported deaths (66 per cent) have been in long-term care facilities or supportive/home living sites.

As of Jan. 25, Alberta had identified 20 cases of the variant first identified in the United Kingdom and five cases of the variant first identified in South Africa. Variant case numbers will be updated weekly.
