No one hurt in semi fire on QEII near Red Deer

Aug 25, 2020 | 5:32 PM

Fortunately no one was injured following a vehicle fire on Highway 2 north of Red Deer this week.

Ivan Dijkstra, Deputy Fire Chief for Red Deer County, says crews responded shortly before midnight Sunday evening to reports of a semi-tractor trailer on fire on Highway 2 in the southbound lanes.

Dijkstra says crews were able to extinguish the blaze but not before it spread to the semi’s cargo load full of groceries.

Traffic was down to one lane for several hours while firefighters fought the flames and the wreckage eventually removed.

Dijkstra says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but adds that it is not considered suspicious.

There is no damage estimate at this time.
