Red Deer County to open new Family Resource Centre in Springbrook

Mar 9, 2020 | 12:54 PM

MARCH 13 – Red Deer County is postponing the grand opening event for the Family Resource Centre in Springbrook due to the increased presence of Covid-19 in Alberta.

The event will take place at a future date.

“There is no need for panic at this time, but we are following guidelines regarding large gatherings of people that were recommended by the Provincial government and Alberta Health Services,” says Red Deer County Mayor Jim Wood. “We encourage people to take proper precautions and stay aware as the situation progresses.”

Red Deer County is inviting members of the public to celebrate the opening of a new Family Resource Centre in Springbrook.

The grand opening event is Mar. 14 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and will feature treats from the Cutie Pies Bakery.

The building is located at 3801 Airport Drive, next to the Red Deer Regional Airport terminal building and above the Cutie Pies Bakery. There is ample parking immediately outside the building.

The Centre will be staffed by Red Deer County Community Services personnel. The Boys and Girls Club will also have staff working some hours at the Centre.

“This space will be a huge addition to Community Services in Springbrook,” says Jo-Ann Syminton, Red Deer County Community Services Manager. “It will allow us to offer different options for the public with a number of meeting rooms, a program space, and a dedicated Boys and Girls Club Space.”

“The Centre will be available for the use of community groups for meetings and events as required,” adds Symington. “There is even some meeting space on the main level for people with mobility issues.”

County Mayor Jim Wood points out, “We conducted a Community Needs Assessment not too long ago, and this was one of the major outcomes of that study. The people of Springbrook have been looking for a quality space to have meetings and programs, and Council is proud to have come up with a solution. I hope the Centre is busy every day of the week with all sorts of great activities.”
