Confederate-style flag at anti-carbon tax protest causes stir

A flag present at Saturday's anti-carbon tax rally at City Hall Park in Red Deer is causing some controversy.

A Confederate-style flag, stylized with maple leaves in place of the standard stars, could be seen in the crowd during the rally.

The signs seen Saturday afternoon at Red Deer City Hall all shared a similar message.

“No NDP. No Carbon Tax.”

“Impeach Notley.”

“Orange is the new broke.”

Man killed in explosion at Red Deer area industrial park

A 35-year-old man was killed in an explosion at a business west of Red Deer Thursday afternoon.

Blackfalds RCMP say they were alerted of the explosion at J Moore Enterprises on Belich Crescent at 1:40 p.m. They say no one else was injured in the incident.
