RED DEER - The first duel between two league champions at the 2016 Mastercard Memorial Cup took to the ice Saturday between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The Huskies built up a 5-1 lead then held on to win by a final score of 5-3.

RED DEER - The high-flying London Knights skated their way to a 6-2 win over the host Red Deer Rebels in the opening game of the 2016 Mastercard Memorial Cup.

Emotions were off the charts long before the puck dropped on game one of the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Red Deer Rebels have unveiled their commemorative game one Memorial Cup jerseys.

Captain Luke Philp modeled the uniform for a throng of media at the Enmax Centrium Thursday morning.

Red Deer's Mayor Proclaims Rebels Week Ahead of Memorial Cup

Mayor Tara Veer officially proclaimed May 23 to 27, 2016 as Rebels Week in Red Deer.

A handful of councillors and Rebels Senior VP of Hockey Operations Merrick Sutter joined her at City Hall for the announcement.

All are words used Monday by players and Head Coach Brent Sutter to describe the smorgasbord of emotions trickling their way through the ice cold veins of the Red Deer Rebels.
