In a week that is reminiscent of White House level departure drama, four key Drayton Valley Thunder staff members have called it quits after a dismal season that was meant to be a celebration of the team marking 20 years in the AJHL.

A string of members have vacated this week, including General Manager Joey Bouchard and Head Coach Ryan Rechner. The Director of Player Development, Jason Nicholetts, and Head Scout Travis Gibson have also left the team.

Assistant Coach Derek Wiest will temporarily take over as head coach while the team search is on for a new hire.

Earlier this week Thunder President and Governor Monte Waronek called this past season "difficult."

Shake-ups are not new for the Thunder, having seen five head coaches come and go since the 2015-2016 season as well as four assistant/associate coaches.

Over the weekend the team finished the year at 17-40-3 overall. It's the worst showing since the 2009-2010 season for the group.

LOCATED: 21-year-old Melissa Heinrichs of Drayton Valley
