Town council has agreed to put forward $430,000 to help finalize the construction of the curling arena at the Christensen Sports and Wellness Centre.

The project will consists of having the exterior of the curling arena match the rest of the rec centre, get windows in the upper curling lounge, have carpet in the downstairs of the curling lobby and entrance way. Additional items that need to be completed is the skate tile in the Quick Lane Arena, new Lexan in front of seating areas, additional bathrooms between meeting rooms and a cold storage shed.

Director of Recreation and Community Services, Roger Smolnicky says the funding will come from a construction contingency where the town has $533,872 in it.

"We wanted to make sure that all of our bookkeeping was up to speed and up to record and that we have finalized our final payments with the engineering firm and with the construction firm. So, then we can actually move forward on these particular projects."

The project will be cost shared with the Curling Club. They will be giving $86,000.

Since there are various projects within the whole construction project some can be started on right away and some can’t start until spring and summer.

"Total wrap up on this will be this spring."
