RED DEER- RCMP arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after an argument in a parking lot ended with a man being struck by a car that then fled the scene.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Mounties responded to a report of a hit and run in the Walmart parking lot at Parkland Mall.

Witnesses report seeing two men argue prior to the collision, and the pedestrian was struck by a Ford Focus that then fled the scene.

Officers began a search for the suspect vehicle, which they quickly identified through witness statements and surveillance video.

They located the suspect at his home shortly afterward and took him into custody without incident.

A 70-year-old man is in hospital in serious condition after sustaining a head injury.

A 37-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon and failing to stop or remain at the scene of a crash. His name has not yet been released.
