A fun-filled event celebrating all things Harry Potter and the history of magic is taking place in downtown Red Deer this weekend.

“Diagon Alley Meets Downtown” is being hosted by The Coconut Room and Sunworks, Practitioners of Good Taste.

The event coincides with the release of two books about the wizarding world, including A History of Magic: The Book of the Exhibition and A Journey Through A History Of Magic.

Organizers say the books feature everything you want to know about the wizarding world and accompany the exhibition currently underway at the British Library.

Other businesses involved in the event include To The Lost, Housewarmings, Forgotten Alley, Tribe, Red Boar Smokery and Quenched International Coffee House.

Special guests taking part that will turn up the fun factor include Central Alberta Quidditch, Medicine River Wildlife Centre with Otis the Owl and Karing Holmes Dog Boarding & Training / K9 Handling.

The event starts on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. and runs until 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.

Organizer Kathryn Harris says anyone attending dressed up as a wizard, may receive a “Wizard Discount” at some of the participating businesses.
