Jim Watters says he still isn’t done after 16 years as a trustee with Red Deer Public Schools.
Watters is seeking re-election when voters head to the polls on Monday.
His children are long gone out of the system, but Watters’ three grandchildren are now students.
“For me, it’s important that we look at their future because they’re going to be basically looking after our future,” he says. “I want all kids to do the best they can and to make the world a better place and also to make sure they have the opportunities I never had.”
Watters, who got his start with the Pines School Council from 1992-98, says he remains engaged with numerous schools in an effort to get out there and stay in touch with ongoing issues.
