Lung Association launches annual Christmas Seals campaign

Nov 20, 2018 | 5:56 PM

For more than a century, generations of Albertans have been supporting the Christmas Seals campaign, and this year is no different. Christmas Seals has been instrumental in helping The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT raise funds for research, prevention and support for thousands in Alberta who are faced with a breathing problem. That is why during this holiday season, The Lung Association is asking Albertans to make a generous donation to the Christmas Seals campaign. This year’s campaign is proving to be challenging, our goal for this, our biggest fund raiser of the year, is to raise $560,000 to fight lung disease in Alberta, and with less than six weeks to go, we are only half way there.

Christmas Seals are festive stamps that can be used to “seal” cards and packages. The Lung Association first used these seals in 1908 to spread awareness and raise funds to combat tuberculosis. Today, with funds raised through this year’s Christmas Seals campaign, TLA will be able to fight new battles against chronic lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by funding important research programs.

“Breathing is the first thing we will do in our lifetimes, it will also be our last,” said Leigh Allard, President and CEO for The Lung Association. “It’s also the most important, if we can’t breathe, nothing else matters”.

“For some Albertans, breathing is difficult, struggling for every single breath is something no one should have to endure. By supporting our Christmas Seals campaign you will help save lives by supporting important research being done right here in Alberta, as well as funding support for those patients who are struggling to breathe every day.”
