New exhibit and fundraiser for Red Deer Food Bank

Oct 23, 2018 | 7:37 AM

RED DEER- The artists of the Viewpoint Gallery present a new group exhibition called FOOD.

It features work by Erin Boake, Robin Lambert, Alysse Bowd, Darren Petersen, Dawn Candy, Arto Djerdjerian, Andrew Glazebrook, Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur, and Susan Woolgar.

FOOD is inspired by one of our most essential needs – food provides nutrition, conflict, sharing, flavour, colour, craft and compulsion to our lives and it is something we all have in common on some level.

Both overrated and underrated in our society, food is often taken for granted.

This is the third year that the artists decided to come together for a themed exhibition.

This year, in addition to the exhibition, the artists donated several small, food-themed art works for sale via silent auction.

All sales from the auction pieces will be donated directly to the Red Deer Food Bank Society.

Donated pieces are on display and available at the gallery for viewing and bidding until the evening of November 2.

On November 2, the public is invited to join the artists for a casual social reception at the Viewpoint Gallery from 7-9 p.m.

Bidding will be open until 9 p.m.

The artists are asking visitors to consider bringing non-perishable food items or cash donations for the Food Bank.

The Viewpoint Gallery is located in the City of Red Deer Culture Services Centre, 3827 – 39 St.

Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Closed from 12 to 1).
