Registration open for 10th Berry Architecture Community Wellness Ride

Jun 12, 2018 | 1:50 PM

On Saturday, August 11, cyclists of all ages and abilities will gather at Berry Architecture + Associates to take part in the 10th annual Berry Architecture Community Wellness Ride.

The cycling event is held each August to raise funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)-Central Alberta region and the Central Alberta Brain Injury Society (CABIS). Over the last 10 years there have been many changes to the event, including the title sponsors and how many distances have been offered, but one thing has remained constant, explains CMHA Executive Director, Christine Stewart.

“It really is about the personal connection to the work that both CMHA and CABIS do in the community that brings people back year after year. Maybe it is your child struggling with addiction, or a family member who has suffered a brain injury as a result of a motor vehicle collision; these are life events that could impact any one of us at any given time”.

This sentiment is shared with the retired professional cyclists who will be in attendance at this year’s event, Tyler Hamilton and Alex Steida. “It is an honour to have Tyler and Alex participating in the ride, “explains event co-chair, Melissa Brilz. “They are both super great people and bring a wealth of experience that they are willing to share with all the riders. When you hear them talk about their own struggles with mental health challenges, you realize that no one is immune to it”.
