Kick it to the Curb this weekend

Jun 7, 2018 | 6:06 AM

RED DEER- Bargain hunters are getting ready for the ultimate deal, as Kick it to the Curb goes rain or shine this Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10.

Red Deerians who have been busy clearing out their closets, basements, and garages are encouraged to place their unwanted but still-useful items at the curb in front of their home, and mark them as “free” with a sign or sticker so others can find a new life for them.

Popular items include everything from books and DVDs to furniture and construction items.

However, for safety reasons, there is a list of things to avoid including child car seats, playpens, and bike helmets.

This list is found on our website.

Waskasoo Environmental Education Society also holds their Trash to Treasure Swap Meet this weekend at Kerry Wood Nature Centre from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., where residents can bring their items and browse for new-to-them treasures.

Kick it to the Curb runs every spring and fall to encourage residents to repurpose unwanted goods, find new homes for still-useful items, and divert materials from the landfill.

The giveaway weekend wraps up Environment Week, which is celebrated across Canada.
