AHS promotes National Addictions Awareness Week

Nov 23, 2020 | 11:37 AM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is teaming up with individuals, community groups, schools and businesses across the province to mark National Addictions Awareness Week, which runs Nov. 22 to 28.

The effects of addiction go beyond the individual to include family, friends and society as a whole. Preventing and reducing harm related to substance use and addiction is everyone’s business.

National Addictions Awareness Week calls on all of us to learn more about issues related to substance use and problem gambling. The week is also an opportunity to highlight ways in which all Albertans can play a role, big or small, to support one another in living addiction-free.

“We understand the impact addiction can have on Albertans and we are committed to ensure people get the help they need, when they need it, to start their journey of recovery. This is why we have committed $140 million to make treatment and recovery available to all Albertans struggling with addiction in every corner of our province,” says Jason Luan, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.
