Red Deer Public Library adding Sunday hours at Dawe, Timberlands branches

Aug 28, 2019 | 10:53 AM

The City of Red Deer Library Board is excited to announce the addition of Sunday hours of opening for Dawe and Timberlands branches starting 10 a.m. starting Sunday,September 8.

Customers are invited to visit Dawe and Timberlands for special first Sunday opening celebrations.

Jim Taylor, Library Board Chair, says the new hours align with the Board’s commitment to continuous improvement. “And that’s a good thing!” he says.

Traditionally, Sunday is one of the busiest days of the week at the Downtown Branch, explains Shelley Ross, CEO, Red Deer Public Library. An average of 121 people pass through the gates every hour, compared to an average of 85 people per hour other days.

“In our 2018 Customer Satisfaction survey we received many comments asking that all the branches be open on Sundays, and a few asking for different hours of opening including opening earlier on Sundays,” Ross explains. “While it’s not possible to stay within budget and also satisfy all of the demands for library hours, we analyzed visits to the library and realized that we could make Red Deerians’ lives a little easier and a lot more fun by adding Sunday hours to the branches.”

Library patrons also find different hours of opening across the three branches hard to keep track of so starting Tuesday September 3rd, RDPL has simplified hours of opening so that they are the same across all three branches, Ross adds.

All three branches will have these hours:

Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Friday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

“All three library branches bring busy people together and enrich their local communities, so anything we can do to make library visits easier to plan and easier to fit into the week, it’s worth doing,” Ross says.
