Open letter to Alberta parents, teachers and students from Education Minister Eggen

My friends,

I’m writing about an issue that’s important to every student, parent, aunt, uncle, and grandparent in this province.

What I am talking about?

UCP leader Jason Kenney’s plan to turn back the clock on our kids by shredding the new curriculum in our schools. It was an ambitious, $60-million project that would span nearly a decade and require thousands of teachers, experts and parents to devote countless hours of their time.

And it was absolutely necessary.

Last year’s gas-and-dash fatality in Thorsby reminded us all that gas theft is a serious danger in both urban and rural settings.

As Albertans, our hearts break when we see incidents of preventable workplace violence occur. This is why your government took action to improve the safety of Alberta’s gas stations and convenience stores across the province. 

Personal attacks not the best way to advance Alberta’s interests

As the MLAs representing Red Deer-North and Red Deer-South we were not surprised by MLA Don MacIntyre’s article or the tone of personal attack. We don’t agree that using unfounded smears is a good way to carry on political debate. We do, however, want to respond by pointing out exactly what we as your MLAs and the government are doing to bring hope and change to the province and to advance Alberta’s interests.
