Honouring Gary Swanson

Jun 15, 2018 | 9:05 PM

Following Gary’s and Cec’s (his dad) recent passing, my husband and I (friends of the family and Santa business partnership) have kept in contact with the family and are very sensitive to their needs and wishes and are being as helpful as possible, which includes sharing the below information.

For those who have been wondering and asking about gatherings for these exceptional Swanson men, Cec indicated he did not want a public celebration and the family is, of course, honouring his wishes. If you want to gather a couple friends and go have a beverage to toast and remember Cec, you are most welcome to do so.

Gary was just as humble as his dad, and likely would have said the same, if he was given the chance. But since he has not stated an objection, we will just have to assume he won’t be too upset if we held a gathering. So let’s celebrate and honour this great man! I bet he is giving the stink eye from his resting place right about now.

A planning committee will be hosting a tribute for Gary, likely later this summer. The tribute will be open to family, friends and the public.

In the mean time, a lot of folks from the public asked what they can do and voiced a desire to share how Gary has touched their lives.

Donations: You can make a donation to either the Ronald MacDonald House or Heart and Stroke foundation by visiting their respective web sites.

Photos with Santa: Parkland Mall Guest Services is graciously collecting your favourite photos with Santa Gary to create a special photo album.

Stories: If you have a special story of Gary/ Santa Gary, we encourage you to leave your story (with your name and phone #) at Parkland Mall Guest Services.
Someone from Parkland Mall or the tribute planning committee will contact you and discuss details about how the story will be shared. Right now there is nothing definite for the use of the stories, but there are great ideas to possibly create a video or share some of the stories at the upcoming tribute, etc.

For those who wish to attend a public celebration for Gary, the planning committee will communicate the details of the tribute, once they become available.
