Kenney kicks off election campaign

Mar 19, 2019 | 1:33 PM

United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney officially kicked off his provincial election campaign this afternoon.

“Are you better off than you were four years ago? For the vast majority of Albertans, the answer is ‘no,’” he said during a media conference hosted at an oil and gas company in Leduc.

“In this election, Albertans have a chance to vote for change that will get this province back to work, create jobs, build pipelines, while fighting for a fair deal for Alberta. And that’s exactly what we will do,” Kenney continued.

Kenney is promising to repeal the signature elements of Notley’s term in office by getting rid of the carbon tax, rolling back corporate tax increases and some of the boosts to the minimum wage and cancelling injury compensation for farmers.

“We will stop the NDP’s reckless plunge toward a $100 billion debt that risks our future. We will stand up to those blocking our resources, and demand a new deal for Alberta to secure pipelines and a fair price for our energy.” Kenney said. “We will send a message to the world that Alberta is open for business again.”

This will be the first provincial election for the United Conservative Party, which was born out of a merger of the Alberta Tories (PC) and the Wildrose Party.
