Innisfail RCMP have arrested a man they found sleeping in the driver’s seat of a stolen vehicle with a shotgun by his side.

Mounties responded Wednesday to a report of a suspicious vehicle stuck in the ditch near Township Road 352 and Range Road 281 in Red Deer County.

Members approached and found a male sleeping. He initially resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

Both the vehicle and the plate were determined to be stolen.

Bryan Lawrence Moffitt, 22, of Red Deer County, faces 37 charges, including three of assaulting a police officer, as well as possession of a controlled substance, a weapon, and stolen property. There are also two counts of failure to comply with probation.

For his latest run-in with the law, Moffitt has a bail hearing scheduled for March 21.

In October 2018, Moffitt was arrested and charged after he drove a stolen truck into a farmer’s fence near Acme.

He was sentenced on those matters last month and given a 270-day jail sentence and one-year probation.

In March 2017, Moffitt was sentenced to one year in jail, a ten-year firearms ban, and a three-year driving ban in relation to a similar incident which occurred in Blackfalds in July 2016.
