Feb 27, 2019 | 7:35 PM

The Red Deer Rebels earned their second straight win Wednesday night with a 5-2 road triumph over the Regina Pats.

Alexander Alexeyev opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games, and his 10th of the season, 10:28 into the first period.

Cole Dubinsky tied it for the Pats just over four minutes later, but Ethan Sakowich scored with 48 seconds left in the period to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.

Sakowich struck again 55 seconds into period two to make it 3-1. Brett Davis found the back of the Pats net at the 6:03 mark for a 4-1 Red Deer lead.

The Pats came out hard in the third period in and pulled within 4-2 with 3:15 left to play on a power play tally from Brady Pouteau.

But Brandon Hagel put this one on ice with an empty net goal, his 37th goal of the year and 99th of his Rebels career, with 2:10 remaining.

Rebels goalie Ethan Anders, making his 50th start of the season, turned aside 33 Pats shots on goal. Regina goalie Max Paddock made 18 saves on the night.

With the win the Rebels pulled even with the Medicine Hat Tigers four fourth place in the Central Division, and in the wildcard playoff race, with 67 points, two better than the Brandon Wheat Kings.

A tough task awaits the Rebels in their next game Friday night as they pay a visit to the WHL leading Prince Albert Raiders. The game can be heard on 106.7 THE DRIVE at 6 p.m.
