Drayton Valley RCMP weekly report: Feb. 14 – 21

February 14

8:53 am – Brazeau County – Complainant concerned over the wellbeing of some livestock.  The RCMP Livestock investigator attended the property and determined there were no issues with the livestock.

8:57 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a damaged sunroof while parked on 44 Street in Drayton Valley.  Unknown if damage was caused intentionally as no people or vehicles were seen in the area.

11:26 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a single vehicle collision, vehicle lost control and slid on icy roads and struck a tree. No injuries.

5:25 pm – Brazeau County – Complaint of an abandoned vehicle on Range Road 81.  No occupants, vehicle was not stolen. The vehicle was removed.

February 15

1:16 am – Drayton Valley – While on patrol, members located an impaired driver near the Derrick Lounge. The male was arrested and processed for the impaired driving charge and was subsequently released for court on April 2.

5:48 am – Brazeau County – Report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 22 blocking traffic.  Members attended, vehicle was in the ditch, not obstructing traffic. The owner advised they would have it removed shortly.

7:39 am – Brazeau County – Break and enter to a commercial building some time overnight.  Nothing appears taken, entry gained to shop area.  Neighboring businesses canvased for surveillance, however nothing found.  No suspects at this time.

9:41 am – Brazeau County – Report of theft of equipment from a lease site sometime overnight.

12:21 pm – Drayton Valley – Two vehicle collision in parking lot on 52 Avenue.  No injuries.

12:55 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of identity theft/fraud, the complainant received information that someone had attempted to open a loan in her name, upon review of her credit, several other attempts had been made as well.  Matter is under investigation.

3:14 pm – Drayton Valley – Mailboxes broken in to on near 55 Avenue/50 Street.  Unknown what was taken.  Matter is under investigation.

4:14 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of shoplifting from Canadian Tire.  Suspect vehicle and details provided to police.  Suspect located at Independent Grocers parking lot and arrested.  Stolen property recovered.  Male released for court on March 19.

4:33 pm – Brazeau County – Complaint of a collision between a school bus and another vehicle on Township Road 502.  Police, fire and ambulances attended, there were 26 children on board the bus at the time of the collision, a couple of whom were transported to the hospital for assessment, however it is believed all of the injuries were minor in nature.  This matter is still under investigation at this time.

6:20 pm – Drayton Valley – Report that an unknown male attended a residence threatening an occupant with a baseball bat over stolen property.  Police attended, the victim was unwilling to cooperate with police.

7:07 pm – Drayton Valley – Request for welfare check at a residence.  Complainant concerned for the wellbeing of some of the occupants.  Members attended, determined there was no cause for concern.

7:42 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a disturbance at the Econorest.  Members attended and were able to help diffuse the situation, parties were separated for the evening.

February 16

12:32 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of an abandoned vehicle on 43 Avenue.  Members attended, owner located and advised the vehicle would be removed.

1:01 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of funds fraudulently transferred from the complainant’s bank account.  No statement or details provided from complainant.  Matter is still under investigation.

5:52 pm – Brazeau County – Police responded to a panic alarm at a residence.  It was determined that the button was pushed accidentally and there was no emergency.

7:01 pm – Drayton Valley – Request for assistance at 7-11, staff called as a female customer was concerned over threats she received.  Members attended and spoke with the female who was thankful for police assistance, however refused to provide a statement regarding the threats.

8:09 pm – Brazeau County – Police were called to assist the Drayton Valley Fire Department with two semi-trucks that had caught fire in a yard.  It was determined that the trucks were left running due to the cold.  No evidence to believe foul play was involved.

10:27 pm – Drayton Valley – 911 hang-up received from a residence.  Members attended and found a verbal dispute had taken place.  The involved parties did not want police assistance.

February 17

4:56 am – Brazeau County – Report of an alarm at a shop on a residential property.  Members attended and determined there had been a break-in with a stolen vehicle located nearby which was seized for a forensic examination.  Matter is still under investigation.

8:12 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a stolen vehicle.  The vehicle recovered on the earlier call was reported to have been stolen by the owner.

9:20 am – Brazeau County – Theft of copper wire from a lease site.  Matter is still under investigation.

10:48 am – Brazeau County – Report of a suspicious person/vehicle near Power House Road.  Members attended and located the person who was scavenging drift wood.

12:10 pm – Brazeau County – Report that last night there was a tractor or some other heavy equipment driving down Range Road 84. This morning there was damage to a gate with tracks that appear to be from the same type of vehicle.  Unknown who may be responsible at this time.

8:30 pm – Brazeau County – Report of an erratic driver on Highway 22, possibly an impaired driver.  The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted.  It was determined that the driver was not impaired.

10:25 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a possible impaired driver. Members located the vehicle parked at the residence of the owner.  The owner was spoken to, was determined not to be impaired and was just learning to drive on icy roads as he was new to Canada.

February 18

5:54 am – Drayton Valley – Theft from motor vehicle. Complainant reports his truck was entered at the Holiday Inn parking lot contents were stolen.

6:16 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a stolen blue 2001 Ford Explorer, Alberta license plate BXL-9937. The vehicle was stolen sometime overnight from 52 Street.  The vehicle was also suspected to be involved in other criminal activity in the Evansburg area.

6:47 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a stolen red 2007 Didge Ram 2500, Alberta license plate BCY-8207.  The vehicle was left running with the keys in the ignition when it was taken from behind the Westwinds Motor Inn.

1:02 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of an attempted vehicle theft.  Some overnight a vehicle was broken in to on 52 Avenue and the ignition was damaged, however the suspects were unable to start the vehicle.

2:07 pm – Parkland County – Police called to assist the fire department with a fire inside a residence in Tomahawk.  The fire was extinguished quickly; the origin was deemed to be not suspicious.

5:03 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a missing 37-year-old male from a residence.  Local members worked with Red Deer RCMP members to attempt to locate the male as it was believed he was in the Red Deer area.  The male eventually returned home safely on his own.

February 19

8:40 am – Drayton Valley – Reported that Dairy Queen was broken in to by two unknown suspects, believed to be males and stole the Children’s Miracle Network donation boxes.

9:21 am – Brazeau County – Complaint of a stolen 36-foot gooseneck trailer from a business.  The trailer was located and recovered on February 20 by Rocky Mountain House RCMP.

9:55 am – Drayton Valley – Police were called to assist a male with obtaining his property from the Econorest.  When police attended, the male that his property was safe and police were no longer needed.

3:09 pm – Brazeau County – Report of an abandoned trailer on a lease site.  Members attended and confirmed the trailer had been stolen from Rocky Mountain House.  The trailer was recovered; however, the tires had been removed.

3:24 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a missing 29-year-old male from a residence.  Local members worked with Evansburg RCMP to attempt to locate the male.  Later in the evening, police received information that he was at a residence in Drayton Valley, members attended and confirmed he was safe.

6:19 pm – Brazeau County – Police were advised of the location of a female on warrant in Lodgepole.  Members attended the location and arrested the female and she was later released for court.

6:22 pm – Drayton Valley – Complaint of a suspicious vehicle, possibly involved in recent vehicle thefts.  Members located the vehicle and determined it was a local resident and was not suspicious.

February 20

5:16 am – Drayton Valley – Complaint received of two vehicles stolen from a residence.  Unknown suspects entered the house from an unsecure door, took the keys and stole both vehicles.  Another vehicle was left at the scene that had been stolen out of Edmonton.  One of the stolen vehicles was recovered burnt out by Mayerthorpe RCMP and the other, a 2012 white/gold Dodge Ram 3500, Alberta license plate BLX-0946 with slip tank in the box and small dent to rear bumper is still missing.

8:37 am – Drayton Valley – Report of damage to truck on 44 Street.  Unknown suspects broke through the back window of the truck and rifled through the contents.  It is not believed anything was stolen.

11:33 am – Drayton Valley – Complainant of a fraud.  The victim was asked by a female to cash a cheque for her as she did not have access to a bank.  The victim was later advised by the bank that the cheque was fraudulent and was out the money.

1:31 pm – Brazeau County – Report of a break and enter in progress to a residence.  Members attended the residence, determined the sounds were originating from an open door banging against the house in the wind.  No break-in was occurring.

3:09 pm – Brazeau County – Single vehicle collision on Highway 22.  Vehicle slid on the icy roads causing the trailer of the truck to roll on to it’s side.  No injuries.

February 21

12:49 am – Drayton Valley – Report of an unwanted person at the Derrick Lounge.  Members attended and located the male who was on warrant for traffic offences out of Red Deer.

7:56 am – Brazeau County – Report of a break-in to a well site overnight.  Two quads and a side-by-side were stolen from the site, as well as extensive damage to copper wiring on the site.  2 suspects were identified and are currently in custody pending further investigation.
