Vipers win playoff opener

The Red Deer Vipers were winners in their first game of the 2019 Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Vipers blanked the Mountainview Colts 5-0 to start their best-of-seven North Conference semi-final series at the Nexsource Centre in Sylvan Lake on Tuesday.

Jacksyn Goodall, Connor Sullivan, Bryan Adams, Tristyn Zrubiak and Aidan Wilson each scored once for Red Deer. Justin Anderson turned aside 28 shots to earn the shutout.

Game two goes Friday night in Didsbury. Game three is Saturday in Red Deer at the Collicutt Centre at 8 p.m.

Elsewhere Tuesday, the Blackfalds Wranglers fell 4-3 to Airdrie in game one of their North Conference semi-final series. Game two goes Thursday night in Blackfalds (8 p.m.).
