Drayton Valley RCMP weekly report: Feb. 7 – Feb. 14

February 7

8:51 am – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a 34-year-old man as being possibly suicidal at an unknown location. Members eventually located the male and transported him to hospital

1:01 pm – Drayton Valley – Aspenview – Members responded to a domestic situation. Investigated, no offence took place, no charges laid.

4:00 pm – Rocky Rapids – Complainant reported that a Chev van had been parked in front of her residence for a few days, blocking her driveway. Member attended and contacted the owner who said the van had broken down. Owner was advised to have the van moved by morning or it would be towed.

9:22 pm – Drayton Valley – Omniplex parking lot – Complainant reported 3 different pickup trucks and a silver Jetta “drifting” in the parking lot, almost hitting parked cars. Member attended and located one vehicle, driver warned. The pickup trucks had left when call received and they were not located.

10:26 pm – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Park – Complainant reported a neighbour flying a drone near her home. Member attended and located the pilot, who was given guidance on drone usage. The pilot apologized.

February 8

6:22 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 621 – Complainant reported a truck in the ditch west of the Pembina River, truck still running. Member attended found truck in the ditch, minimal damage, tow truck already on scene. Member assisted in controlling traffic while truck being removed from ditch.

8:04 am – Drayton Valley – Power Centre Blvd – Report of a theft that occurred overnight from a business, fence cut, entry gained through unlocked door. Under investigation.

1:32 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported two persons entering a neighbours’ yard, likely stealing bottles. Member attended and located two individuals matching description provided, no evidence to charge either.

2:42 pm – Drayton Valley – Power Centre Blvd – Complainant reports shoplifter’s stole about $1500 worth of merchandise and left in a vehicle. License plate provided and video, still under investigation.

2:50 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reporting a male in possession of a snake with thermal burns, male stating he won’t be able to get snake checked for about two weeks due to cost. Member investigated, male contacting actual owner of snake to figure out treatment options.

7:04 pm – Drayton Valley – Power Centre Blvd – Store manager complained of two males smoking cannabis outside store. Contact made with complainant who advised the males were already gone and apparently hadn’t driven.

8:15 pm – Drayton Valley – Boston Pizza – Report of a large group of males fighting in the parking lot. Member attended promptly, no one fighting. Staff advised one male had been causing problems in the lounge, started fight with some others. Suspects gone on arrival.

8:15 pm – Tomahawk – Wallet found at gas station, complainant unable to reach owner. Wallet retrieved and returned to owner.

8:42 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complainant reported intoxicated male passed out in hotel hallway. Male had apparently stripped naked. Male had a room in the hotel and was already passed out in the room when members arrived. Male believed to have been fighting earlier at Boston Pizza.

10:37 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Male hotel guest called paramedics due to chest pains. Attending paramedics were threatened by a male. Members attended and arrested a 30-year-old male from Iskut, BC who obligingly attended the hotel lobby via elevator as members were on scene. The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear after sobering up for the night. Related to the files at 8:15 and 8:42 pm files

February 9

12:24 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Complainant reported a break and enter to a suite below him, complainant could hear noises and thumping. Members attended, no signs of a break in or new footsteps in snow, suite secure. Only occupant of the suite appeared to be feline and not suspicious.

1:12 am – Drayton Valley – 49 Street – Complainant reported a yellow car parked across the street, blaring music for past 30-40 minutes. Member attended and located male who turned down his music and apologized.

3:12 am – Drayton Valley – Members conducting a checkstop observed a vehicle make an apparent detour to avoid police. Members followed and stopped the vehicle nearby. Member conducted mandatory alcohol screening which resulted in the 19-year-old female/GDL driver being issued a 30 day suspension and a 7 day vehicle seizure for providing a “caution” breath sample.

5:34 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complainant reporting the theft of his 2001 Dodge dually flatdeck with trailer attached. Complainant had left the truck running with the keys in it to warm it up. Still under investigation.

8:47 am – Drayton Valley – Members responded to assist with a deceased 65-year-old man. Not a suspicious death, Coroners Service in charge of any further investigation.

10:21 am – Drayton Valley – Male attended Blackfalds RCMP to report being assaulted in Drayton Valley in August of 2018. Under investigation.

10:59 am – Lodgepole area – Complainant reporting break and enter to a lease site. Oil and batteries stolen from the location, valued at about $2000.

12:51 pm – Elk River Road area – Complainant reported a male upset regarding people fishing in a closed area, stating that if the authorities don’t act he will. Male made other statements of a threatening nature. Documented for information only at complainant’s request.

9:55 pm – Tomahawk – Complainant received a call demanding payment for cocaine. Complainant told caller she was going to call police, caller said it was a prank and hung up. Unable to trace number, police confident the complainant was not in debt for any drug purchase.

February 10

2:33 am – Drayton Valley – Omniplex area – Complainant reporting she has to walk to her car and is concerned about a suspicious male on a bicycle. Members attended, neither the caller or male could be located. Complainant called back to advise she was safe at home.

8:35 am – Drayton Valley – Complainant requesting police attend while she retrieved a snowblower from a rental property where tenant is being evicted. Police advised they would try to be in the area if there was any violence but that the issues described were civil in nature

12:20 pm – Brazeau County – Violet Grove area – Complainant reporting a break and enter to her residence, occurred overnight. Member attended, evidence gathered. Under investigation.

1:21 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave/52 St – Complainant reported her vehicle broken into, wallet stolen. Credit card has been used. Under investigation.

2:21 pm – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave/50 St – Complainant reporting traffic lights not changing at location. Member attempted to call after hours Public Works number, got called to priority matter. No further complaints, it is known that lights at this location are finicky if vehicles don’t stop at correct spot.

2:22 pm – Brazeau County – Complainant reported suspicious vehicle leaving a shut in lease site. Member attended, vehicle not located, plate provided didn’t match vehicle.

2:46 pm – Brazeau County – Male located and arrested on outstanding warrants from Edmonton Police. Male released on a Promise to Appear as requested by EPS.

2:54 pm – Brazeau County – Complainant reported a B&E to a battery site. Members attended and gathered evidence. Still under investigation, likely related to suspicious vehicle complaint at 2:22 p.m.

5:23 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 621 near Cynthia – Complainant reported a vehicle abandoned off the highway. People seen near vehicle earlier, said vehicle broke down, were seen tossing items from vehicle. Member attended and determined vehicle not stolen but displaying an incorrect plate. Vehicle towed at request of company responsible for lease site. Copper wire located just in tree line. Under investigation, related to calls at 2:22 and 2:54 p.m.

10:14 pm – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Park – Complainant reporting adult son intoxicated, threatening family, being violent. Member attended, intoxicated male arrested, held in cells overnight to sober up. No charges as requested by complainant.

10:34 pm – Drayton Valley – Physician reported threatening phone messages from a male blaming him for his wife’s death. Member listened to the messages which were vaguely threatening but clearly harassing. Contact was made by police with the suspect, who resides elsewhere. The intoxicated suspect was warned to not contact the complainant further or face charges.

10:43 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reporting that his truck was broken into at a local hotel and a hockey bag with work equipment stolen. Member contacted complainant, bag was stolen from open bed of truck. Under investigation. 

February 11

12:52 am – Drayton Valley – 7/11 – Staff requesting assistance with intoxicated aggressive male who got his card stuck in ATM. Members attended and assisted the male in retrieving his card. Male agreed to pay for damage to a candy display that was pushed over.

4:18 am – Drayton Valley – 50 St/54 Ave – Alarm at Esso which was confirmed as a B&E. Under investigation, suspect captured on video surveillance and tentatively identified

9:15 am – Drayton Valley – 50 St/50 Ave – Complainant attended to report jackknifing his truck and trailer the previous evening while attempting to slow down on icy road, damaging the truck and trailer.

10:33 pm – Drayton Valley – 47 St – Complainant reporting a ladder missing and a car and other item left behind after tenants moved out in the middle of the night. Member attended, car not stolen, other item not traceable. Unable to prove when the ladder disappeared or who was responsible.

10:39 am – Parkland County – Complainant reported his ex-girlfriend attended his residence to retrieve belongings when an alternate time had already been arranged. Members confirmed she now had most of her property from complainant’s residence. Female was warned that she no longer had a reason to return and that entering complainant’s residence in the future could be an offence.

11:03 am – Drayton Valley – Jubilee Ave/Hwy 22 – Complainant stopped on highway at red light, rear-ended by second car unable to stop on the icy road.

7:11 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reporting her ex-boyfriend breaching a restraining order earlier in the day by being at her residence. Member attended, viewed video of incident, the details of which are insufficient for a charge.

8:18 pm – Brazeau County – Complainant calling from BC advising that his landlord allowed another male onto his property and that the male stole some belongings. Under investigation.

8:39 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reporting ex-boyfriend breaching a restraining order and apparently threatening suicide based on items he brought to her yard. Member attended but male had left. Significant efforts made to locate the male to no avail. Male likely avoiding police due to his knowing he will be arrested when located.

10:02 pm – Drayton Valley – 47 St – Complainant reporting a male kicked her door in, accused her son of theft. Members attended, suspect had been looking through the back yard then got into verbal argument with a resident prior to kicking in the door. Suspect had left, but returned when police were on scene. The suspect was arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear in court. Complainant advised that the suspect had located his stolen property in the yard. Both files still under investigation.

February 12

7:35 am – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported hitting a building in her pickup truck. Member attended, minimal damage, complainant will follow-up with building owner.

7:53 am – Drayton Valley – 7/11 – Complainant reporting a female shoplifter, tried to punch complainant prior to leaving. Member attended, female was located and arrested at adjacent business. Complainant didn’t want her charged, but requested she be advised she was banned from the store. Female was released at another location and advised not to return to the store.

8:32 am – Brazeau County – Complaint of a vehicle driving with a light bar turned on following other vehicles.  The owner of the vehicle was contacted and warned.

11:16 am – Drayton Valley – Truck stolen sometime overnight from behind a residence on 50 Street.  The vehicle is a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado with a lift kit.  This vehicle was recovered on February 14 and held for a forensic examination, no suspects at this time.

2:24 pm – Drayton Valley – Recovered stolen property.  The complainant attended the detachment and turned over a license plate that was reported stolen out of Edmonton.

February 13

2:42 am – Drayton Valley – Recovered stolen truck.  While on patrol, members located a green Ford F150 near the movie theatre that was reported stolen out of Vegreville, on February 8.  The vehicle was towed for a forensic examination.  No suspects at this time.

5:46 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The complainant reports that his back window was smashed out and his guitar and amp were stolen.

6:41 am – Brazeau County – Driving complaint, erratic driver.  Members were unable to locate the vehicle but were able to contact the driver who advised that the road conditions were poor.

8:10 am – Drayton Valley – Report of an abandoned vehicle on private property on 50th Ave.  Members contacted the owner who advised it was parked there to avoid the plow routes and will move the vehicle.

8:17 am – Brazeau County – Complaint of a traffic hazard on Hwy 621, a log had fallen off a logging truck and was on the shoulder of the road.  Carillion contacted to remove it.

8:53 am – Drayton Valley – Two vehicle collision near 47 Street and 48 Avenue.  No injuries.

11:13 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a shed behind the Omniplex had been broken in to and the vehicle inside was tampered with and appears the suspects had attempted to steal it.  The actual incident was first noticed by staff on February 7.

12:14 pm – Rocky Rapids – 2 males pulled up to a residence in Rocky Rapids in a black Dodge Ram and attempted to steal the vehicle in the driveway, causing damage to the ignition prior to being scared off by the homeowner. 

7:23 pm – Drayton Valley – Complaint of a fight that escalated to a male brandishing a knife.  Members attended and arrested the male.  No one involved provided statements to provide evidence of a criminal offence and the male was subsequently released without charges.  Nobody was injured.

10:31 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a trespassing male on Industrial Road.  The male was located and arrested on unrelated warrants.

February 14

12:27 am – Drayton Valley – Complaint of theft from motor vehicle.  An unlocked vehicle was entered on 51 Street and a duffle bag containing heart and diabetes medication were stolen.  Patrols made in the area, nobody located.

3:42 am – Drayton Valley – During a routine traffic stop a male was found to be breaching the conditions of his probation order.  The male was arrested and released for court.
