Two candidates confirmed for Red Deer Catholic by-election

Two candidates have been confirmed as running in the upcoming by-election for a seat on the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Board.

That according to Returning Officer, Frieda McDougall who reveals the candidates are Terry Kulczycki and Robert Maloughney.

Election Day is March 25 and to be eligible to vote in the Red Deer Catholic Regional Division #39 By-election, an elector must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, live in Alberta and reside in the local jurisdiction on Election Day.

City officials say voters will be asked to complete a declaration stating they are eligible to vote for a Separate School Trustee and must provide proof of approved identification that shows both their name and current address.

Electors not able to vote on Election Day may request a special ballot from the Returning Officer.

Boundaries of the Red Deer Catholic Regional Division #39 – Red Deer Area Ward extends into Penhold, Blackfalds, and a portion of Red Deer County areas.

The by-election comes following the resignation of Adriana LaGrange from the Board of Trustees in October of 2018.

LaGrange won the United Conservative Party nomination for Red Deer – North and will be running in this year’s provincial election.  

LaGrange served as a school trustee with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools since 2007.

She is also the former president of the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association and former vice-president of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association.
