Drayton Valley RCMP weekly report: Jan. 31 – Feb. 7

January 31

9:52 am – Drayton Valley, Park Valley Pool – Theft from vehicle – Complainant advised that the drivers side window on their white 2007 GMC Sierra was broken sometime overnight.  Registration stolen.

7:26 pm – Brazeau County – Suspicious vehicle – Complainant reporting a truck on a lease site that should not be there.  Member attended area, vehicle had left.  Member patrolled the area.

11:32 pm – Drayton Valley, 51 Avenue – Fail to comply – Member on patrol observed an individual who was known to be on conditions.  Female arrested for failing to comply with probation order.

February 1

2:49 am – Drayton Valley, Petro Canada North – Theft – Complainant reporting someone cut the lock on the propane cabinet and stole 8 – 10 propane bottles.  Vehicle and suspect description obtained from surveillance video. At about 11 am Members responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint which resulted in 31-year-old Justin Sprague of Mundare being arrested and charged with Theft, Possessing Break-in Tools and Possession of Methamphetamine. Sprague was released by a Justice of the Peace after a bail hearing for court at a later date.

7:44 am – Drayton Valley – Theft of truck – Complainant reporting theft of dark green 1997 Chevrolet pickup sometime overnight. Entry made through gate to business. 

1:06 pm – Drayton Valley, 51 Street – Theft of licence plate – Complainant reported parking their vehicle in a back alley and when they returned the licence plate had been stolen.

February 2

12:04 am – Lodgepole – Child Custody Issue – Complainant requesting assistance from members as an individual is refusing to bring back a child they have guardianship of.  Members attended.  Arrangements were made.

12:07 pm – Brazeau County, Pembina Nordic Ski Club – Mischief – Complainant reporting vandalism at the ski club.  White truck has been driving on the ski trails and is currently stuck.  Fish and Wildlife members assisted RCMP and attended as members were unable to at the time.

12:58 pm – Drayton Valley, Car Washing Company – Suspicious person – Complainant reporting a male wearing a black hooded jacket and jeans has been parked in the car wash for over 4 hours. He had no money and no place to go.  Vehicle had run out of gas. Suspect was later arrested for assault.

4:05 pm – Drayton Valley, Home Hardware – Shoplifting – Complainant reporting that a couple of males entered the store and walked out with a Dremel.  Sensor went off and they placed the tool on the counter then left in a red Ford truck with a street bike in the box. 

11:27 pm – Drayton Valley, 7-11 – Unwanted person – Complainant reporting a homeless male was sleeping in the store, now refusing to leave.  Members attended and provided a courtesy ride back to residence.

February 3

12:51 am – Brazeau County – Assault – Members called to a report of an assault.  One male arrested.

8:57 am – Drayton Valley, Serene Apartments – Theft of vehicle – Complainant reporting theft of grey 2007 Ford crewcab overnight.  Vehicle recovered on lease site shortly after.

February 4

8:22 am – Drayton Valley – Fraud – Complainant reports that they invested approximately $23,000 in quadriga cx, crypto currency.  Owner of the company is deceased and staff of company is unable to access most of their crypto currency. 

9:17 am – Yellowhead County – Mischief – Complainant reporting attempted theft at Moon Lake substation.  Suspects cut a hole in the perimeter fence. 

11:02 am – Drayton Valley, 49 Avenue – Dispute between neighbours over property line, snow removal etc. 

1:10 pm – Drayton Valley – Breach of conditions – Male arrested for breaching conditions of no contact. 

2:43 pm – Drayton Valley, Wal Mart – Shoplifting- Complainant reporting suspects stole $365.61 worth of personal accessories. Still under investigation.

4:32 pm – Lodgepole – Wellbeing Check – Report of a unknown male walking on highway toward Drayton Valley.  Concerned due to the cold.  Member patrolled the area, no one located.

9:02 pm – Drayton Valley, 45 Street – Suspicious persons – Complainant reporting suspicious people at a neighbours residence.  They were shoveling the walks and saw the lights on, when they saw them, they turned the lights out.  Members attended, all doors locked, no signs of break and enter.

February 5

4:25 am – Cynthia – Firearms Complaint – Complainant reporting hearing 2 gun shots.  Heard the same a couple of weeks ago.  Also heard a car alarm approximately 3 hours ago. Members attended, no one observed, no further complaints received.

7:43 am – Drayton Valley, Home Away Inn – Theft from Vehicle – Complainant reporting back passenger window was broken on their truck sometime overnight.  Matter is under investigation.

8:25 am – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 492 by RR73 – Two complaints received of an abandoned car at location. Members attended and determined car had broken down and was not blocking traffic. Owner had already arranged a tow.

8:38 am – Drayton Valley – 47 Avenue – Complainant requested a wellbeing check after noticing a truck running all night at a residence. Members attended and located the owner in the residence, had left the truck running due to the cold. 

10:46 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Report of a collision between a vehicle and mailboxes.

12:41 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 Avenue – Police attended a location and executed a mental health act warrant on a male. Member then transported the male to a designated facility in Edmonton for assessment and treatment.

2:25 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported his truck stolen by a towing company after the company closed its local yard and towed truck elsewhere. Member investigated, determined the tow company was willing to tow the truck back no charge when the owner produced valid insurance and registration and paid the initial bill. 

3:35 pm – Brazeau County – Complainant reported a domestic assault that occurred in a vehicle. Investigation lead to the male suspect being arrested the following morning, male being held for a telephone bail hearing for this charge and an unrelated warrant. Still under investigation

3:59 pm – Drayton Valley – 54A Avenue – Complainant reports $1800 missing via fraudulent use of her credit card. Still under investigation, possible suspect.

4:05 pm – Brazeau County – Twp Road 490 – Complaint of an abandoned truck. Member attended and contacted the owner who advised his kids were snowboarding on a nearby hill.

5:07 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue/Hwy 22 – First of several complaints received of a damaged traffic light at the location. Town of Drayton Valley aware and will be arranging repair.

10:38 pm – Drayton Valley – 52 Avenue – Complainant reported another male in a bar, “acting tough,” threatening and bragging about inappropriate things. Members attended and found the subject of complaint had left and the possibly intoxicated complainant denying he had called police

February 6

12:39 am – Drayton Valley – 46 Street – Complaint of a back window smashed on a 2012 Buick. Still under investigation.

1:20 am – Drayton Valley – Center Court – Complaint of 2 males fighting. Members attended, one male had left the scene and the second male was unsure if he wanted to pursue the matter. Still under investigation.

4:23 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street/50 Avenue – Complaint of a female threatening a male employee of a gas station. Member attended and arrested a female who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Female was upset because the employee refused to let her return a package of Advil that had been opened. Female was arrested and later released without charge as per the employees’ request.

6:49 am – Drayton Valley – 52 Street – Complainant reported his grey 2003 Silverado 1500 extended cab truck stolen overnight from the location. Alberta plate BTD2389. Truck was secure at the time of the theft. Under investigation.

8:25 am – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Park – Complainant reports mischief/possible attempted theft of a truck, occurred overnight. Under investigation.

10:13 am – Drayton Valley – Complainant reporting ongoing harassment over social media from several persons. Under investigation.

11:21 am – Drayton Valley – request to assist Edmonton Police regarding a witness in Drayton Valley.

1:17 pm – Area of Drayton Valley – Complainant reported an unsuccessful phishing scam involving a local government agency. An attempt was made to have an employees pay cheque deposited in a different bank account, scam detected prior to any changes being made. Under investigation.

4:59 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant reporting a female in a blue F150 possibly driving impaired. Driving slow, swerving and drinking something from a jar. Patrols were made but the vehicle wasn’t located

8:52 pm – Drayton Valley – Industrial Road – Anonymous complaint of a disturbance in a rooming house. Members attended and eventually located a female who admitted to having an argument with another female, who had already left.

11:13 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Report of a minor collision between two large trucks in truck parking lot.

February 7

1:51 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reporting possible impaired driver in a Chevy pickup, approaching Drayton Valley south end. With assistance from the complainant the vehicle was located. Sobriety test conducted, driver not impaired.
