The 2019 Canada Winter Games MNP Torch Relay made its way through Lacombe on Saturday.

Seven torchbearers carried the flame in what was one of the final stops before the Roly McLenahan Torch finally arrives in Red Deer.

“The MNP Canada Winter Games Torch Relay is a significant part of the Canada Games, and we
are thrilled to welcome and celebrate the torch relay in Lacombe,” said Mayor Grant Creasey.

“I was honoured to participate in the relay alongside fellow residents. On behalf of council, I would
like to thank our local volunteers for supporting our neighbours in Red Deer with hosting the
2019 Canada Winter Games. This is a great moment for central Alberta!”

The torch was originally lit from the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Oct. 4, 2018. This is the first time there has been a torch relay in the Games' 52-year history and it has visited nearly 50 communities en route to the opening ceremony on Feb. 15.

The next MNP Torch Relay event is Feb. 5 in Sylvan Lake.
