Local athletes set to compete at 2019 Canada Winter Games

Several local athletes will enjoy an extra bit of “home field advantage” as part of Team Alberta for the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

Kaitlyn Wiley of Red Deer will be competing in Archery during week two of the Games. Walter Wiley is team manager. 

Zachary Blakely of Red Deer and Kalena Soehn of Red Deer County will compete in Trampoline at the Collicutt Centre during week two. Keegan Soehn is part of the coaching staff.

Megan Cressey of Red Deer County is set to compete in Freestyle Skiing in week one.

Kobi Chant of Olds will take to the ice for Figure Skating during week two.

Drew Sim of Tees is one of two goaltenders for Team Alberta’s Male U16 hockey team. Michael Kraichy of Red Deer is the team’s manager while Brandin Cote is an assistant coach.

Kendall Newell of Red Deer is the manager for the Female U18 hockey team.

Male hockey will be played during the first week of the games while female hockey will follow during week two.

Overall, Team Alberta is made up of 247 athletes representing 47 Alberta communities in 19 sports.  They will be supported by 73 coaches, managers and support staff, along with 19 Mission Staff.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games run Feb. 15 – March 3.
