Mr. Gay Canada 2019 is a born and raised Red Deerian.

Josh Rimer, a graduate of Lindsay Thurber and student as G.W. Smith Elementary and Central Middle School, is also a former employee of RDTV.

Rimer was recently selected to be Canada's delegate in South Africa where the Mr. Gay World event takes place this May.

A long-time volunteer in the Vancouver area for organizations like the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, A Loving Spoonful, AIDS Vancouver, the LOUD Foundation, and Foundation of Hope, Rimer says he hopes to use his new crown to shine a spotlight on those and other causes.

"I hope to be able to do more fundraising as well for a number of causes that are important to our community, especially when it comes to supporting LGBT refugees," he says. "I'm looking forward to using my YouTube channel, social media, and even TV content to amplify my efforts and really showcase some of the struggles and triumphs within our community. I can't wait to proudly represent Canada."

Rimer's YouTube channel, where he discusses a wide array of subjects, has 33,000 subscribers. He says he'll be documenting his journey to South Africa on the channel this spring.

Rimer is also a host and producer for shows on Canada's national LGBTQ TV station OUTtv.
