Provincial grant boosts fundraising efforts for Springbrook skate park

Jan 17, 2019 | 3:51 PM

Fundraising for a skate park in Springbrook has received a major boost from the province.

The Government of Alberta has announced a $125,000 Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant to help bring the total raised for the project so far to $455,000 or 75 per cent of the $635,000 price tag.

Officials with the Springbrook Community Skatepark Committee say $305,000 of that has come from Red Deer County with the other $25,000 coming from community fundraising efforts.

According to officials, the remaining $180,000 will be raised through local fundraising efforts and corporate sponsorship opportunities.

As a result, local businesses in the family-oriented community 8 kms south of Red Deer are encouraged to contact the Springbrook Community Skate park Committee regarding sponsorship opportunities.

“This is a great opportunity for our small hamlet,” says Adrian Pidhirney, Committee Director, Springbrook Community Skatepark Committee and FCSS Community Worker, in a press release. “With nearly one third of our population of 1,500 under the age of 20, this park will have a major impact now and well into the future. We are hoping to begin construction late this summer, with a completion date of spring 2020.”
