Ponoka RCMP seize drugs and sawed-off shotgun, four charged

PONOKA- Four people faces charges after Mounties seized a firearm, drugs and stolen property from a residence in Ponoka.

It was at around 8 a.m. on January 8 when Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a possible assault on 55 Street in Ponoka.

Police say a man had been assaulted and four people had fled the scene. Three of the suspects were located and arrested at a nearby convenience store while the fourth was arrested at a local residence a short time later.

Further investigation lead police to obtain a search warrant for the same residence and several items were seized including a sawed-off shotgun, 60 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and some stolen clothing.

Neil Ritchie Rain, 21, of Edmonton has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, assault, disguise with intent, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and four counts of failure to comply with a recognizance.

Jaden Michael Omeasoo, 22, of Ponoka has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and four counts of failure to comply with a recognizance.

Rain and Omeasoo have been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court on Jan. 18.

Tyrell Lightning, 23, of Maskwacis, has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was released from custody with conditions, and will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court on Mar. 1.

A 15-year-old boy was also charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of failure to comply with probation order and was released from custody with conditions. He will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court on Mar. 13.
