One killed in crash on Highway 2A near Carstairs

One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2A near Carstairs.

RCMP say they were called just after 1 p.m. Wednesday to the crash involving a grain truck and a pickup truck.

According to Mounties, the grain truck was traveling southbound on Highway 2A when it appears to have lost control and collided with the northbound pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was declared dead at the scene and the driver of the grain truck transported via ground ambulance to a hospital.

An RCMP collision analyst is on scene to investigate, but police believe poor road conditions including fog and ice are factors in this collision.

Both northbound and southbound traffic is being diverted on Highway 2A at Highway 580 to the north and Township Road 294 to the south.

It is anticipated that the diversion will remain in place for several hours.  Motorists are recommended to avoid the area.
